What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a scientifically proven skin treatment that leads to tighter, smoother, and more evenly toned skin.  If fine lines, wrinkles, even deep ones and/or skin laxity are bothering you, look no further than microneedling.  Non ablative, as opposed to most laser treatments and chemical peels, while also respecting the uppermost layer of the skin, microneedling initiates a healing cascade at the dermal-epidermal junction that prompts the production of healthy new cells.  Most clients see results after a single treatment.  Most remarkable, though, is that microneedling results continue to develop long after a recommended 3 to 6 session treatment course.  Done every 4 weeks, clients do not experience significant down time following treatment.  In fact, cosmetics can be applied as soon as the following day.  Microneedling fosters healthy cellular regeneration and while many of my clients are looking address aging concerns, as a preventative measure it is highly recommended.  Best of all, microneedling is much more affordable than many laser treatments, as well as significantly more comfortable.  As a beauty regimen, in combination with good home care, skin becomes healthy and rejuvenated.  Microneedling results are considered permanent, but what cannot be stopped is the passage of time.  Therefore, to maintain results, regular maintenance sessions every 3 to 6 months are always necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a treatment take?

An average treatment for face and neck will take about 1.5 hours inclusive of preparing and numbing the area first. This also is a pre treatment usually required  prior to Strecth mark and scar camouflage treatment on any part of the body.

Does it hurt?

An effective topical anesthetic cream is applied before treatment which takes about 20 minutes to take effect.   The treatment is very comfortable overall, with clients generally experiencing only slight discomfort in certain areas such as the forehead, around the eyes and the lips.  The benefits are definitely worth it.

What will my skin look and feel like after?

While at one time clinicians aimed to create pinpoint bleeding, the latest research holds that erythema (redness) is the target.  Therefore, you will leave the studio with slightly red to pinkish skin.  Skin will feel sunburned and dry.  An after-care protocol will be carefully explained.  Micro-wounds to the surface of the skin close within an hour, making microneedling ideal for the introduction of bacteria.  There is no oozing and very little swelling.  You may wear makeup the following day.  Skin will continue to feel dry and look somewhat flaky in the coming days.  Thereafter you will notice a fresh, healthy glow with tightening and flattened wrinkles and lines.

Is this the same as collagen induction?

Yes!!! Microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy and that is exactly what it does.  The treatment stimulates the formation of new healthy collagen and elastin proteins which are responsible for youthful supple skin.

How many treatments will I need?

A minimum of 3 treatments over 3 months is recommended.  Generally, between 3 and 6 sessions is recommended.  Your goals and skin condition will dictate the exact treatment course.  Careful before and after photos are taken for you to be able to see the remarkable results.

How long do results last?

Technically speaking, results are permanent.  The ageing process continues, however, so upkeep is important to maintain results.  With an excellent at home treatment protocol, sun avoidance, and a healthy lifestyle, results are incredibly long lasting.

Can I get areas other than my face microneedled?

Yes. Microneedling can be done anywhere on the body, yielding the same excellent results.  Many clients are bothered by aging hands, arms, and knees.  The décolleté (chest) is also known to appear very sun damaged since many people forget to apply their daily sunscreen below the face. Spot treatments can be done and/or additional areas can be added to the treatment course with fees adjusted accordingly.

I have very dark skin and have been told I am not a candidate for laser resurfacing.

Microneedling does not have the same limitations as more ablative treatments and is extremely effective for all skin tones, colours and conditions provided your medical background and current condition makes you a suitable candidate.
