What Is Inkless Camouflage?

Also known as inkless tattooing or inkless stretch mark removal, inkless camouflage is a safe and effective skin treatment that targets scars and stretch marks. This technique can be used over the entire body (except the face) and works with the body’s natural repair mechanics to reduce the appearance of scarring and stretch marks and bring back the bodies natural pigment/skin colour into the scar and stretch mark.

As with any cosmetic procedure, the results will vary depending on several factors such as your age, the condition of your skin, the age and size of the area being treated, and your overall health. Generally, clients will see a 20 – 50% reduction in the appearance of their scars after the first treatment. Usually between 2-4 treatments are required.

How Does Inkless Camouflage Work?

While the inkless scar camouflage technique is commonly linked with the word “tattoo”, it’s worth noting that this treatment does not use any pigment. It does, however, make use of tattoo needles and tattoo machine that perform a two-fold function.

Firstly, needling causes controlled trauma to the treated area which breaks down the scar tissues and encourages the body to send blood and nutrients to that location. This process encourages the skin to produce more collagen and natural melanin.

Secondly, inkless camouflage makes use of a mix of serums, oils and vitamins which are injected into the deeper layers of the skin during the process. These products are carefully chosen to further stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, which, in turn, yield smoother, firmer skin. Natural skin colour is encouraged which in time camouflages the damaged skin and stretch mark.

The process forces the body to produce exactly what it needs to plump up depleted cells and rejuvenate the texture and tone of the skin. It also encourages the production of melanin which gives your skin its natural tone.

How Does Inkless Camouflage Differ From Brazilian Stretch Mark Removal?

Those that have done their homework will note some similarities between this treatment and the popular Brazilian stretch mark removal technique. Both are effective ways to reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks, and many clients have seen excellent results.

The main difference lies in that inkless stretch mark removal encourages the body to repair itself, whilst the Brazilian stretch mark tattooing method deposits pigment into the affected area, effectively “colouring in” the marks. The texture of the skin remains much the same as before, but the white or red marks are not as visible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Inkless Camouflage the Same As MCA Needling?

Multi-Trepannic Collagen Actuation (MCA needling) is similar to inkless camouflage in that it uses tattoo needles to deposit a serum or other products (such as hyaluronic acid) directly into the skin. However, MCA needling differs in the depth and figuration in tattoo needles. Inkless stretch mark camouflage is even more effective.

MCA used to be known as dry needling but differs from microneedling.

What Skin Conditions Can Be Treated?

Inkless scar camouflage treatment has proven effective in treating:

  • Stretch marks – white, purple and red
  • Surgical scars
  • Accident or injury scars
  • Scars from cosmetic procedures such as breast lifts or tummy tucks
  • Some hyperpigmentation issues such as laposocopy scars and liposuction scars

It is not recommended for people with a history of keloid scarring.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

The length and number of sessions will depend on the size of the area being treated, as well as how your body responds. Typically 2-4 treatments are required in order to see improvement.

Other factors such as the health of your skin, your diet, and post-care treatment will all play a role in how effective your sessions are. It’s definitely worth chatting with Suki Mezei who will be able to guide you and answer your questions.

How Long Will it Take to Heal?

This treatment includes controlled trauma to the skin, so it’s reasonable to expect that the affected area will be red and a little swollen directly after treatment. The swelling and redness will subside within 48-72 hours.

Thereafter, the internal healing systems within your body take over and start to produce those essential proteins that offer the results you’re looking for. This takes time, but you will see results in 60-90 days.

Post-Treatment Care After Inkless Camouflage Treatment

It’s recommended that you treat your skin gently in the days and weeks following your procedure. Avoid stressing the treated area by:

  • Wearing loose-fitting natural breathable clothing
  • Avoiding direct sun exposure (along with sunscreen or tanning creams)
  • Limiting your time in the shower
  • Avoiding swimming or spending time in a jacuzzi or anywhere that will expose your sensitive skin to water pressure
  • Ensuring that you don’t scratch or pick at the treated area

This will allow you to see the best results from your procedure as you provide the perfect environment for your skin and body to heal. An effective aftercare cream will be provided which is recommended to use twice a day, for 20 days, and thereafter everyday until fully healed.
