Cheaper vs Extravagant Makeup Products
How often do you search the Internet looking for cheaper makeup alternatives? If the answer is never, then you’re either loaded, or you don’t have time to spend hours scouring the internet! So you are in luck here…. I’ve compiled 10 tried and tested fairly pricey products and their cheaper alternatives. Don’t get me wrong – there are some cases when the extravagant spend is worth it. In addition to sharing ways you can save money, I’m also sharing my personal picks on whether it’s worth it to spend the extra pounds on a higher end product.
Extravagent spend: Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (£18.99)
Save: L’Oreal Lash Paradise (£6.99)
Verdict: save. Up until I started using Lash Paradise, Too Faced was my go-to, but it’s the exact same brush and it works just as great, if not better than the high-end tube.
Extravagent spend: BeautyBlender (£16.99)
Save: Real Techniques Miracle Sponge (£5)
Verdict: Extravagent spend. I’ve tried numerous sponges but I always keep coming back to the OG, BeautyBlender. It just works perfectly for blending foundation and CC creams.
Extravagent spend: NARS Copacabana (£24.99)
Save: L’Oreal True Match Lumi (£8.99)
Verdict Personally, I would Extravagently spend on this one because it’s easier to blend the NARS highlighter. The L’Oreal one is runny and doesn’t last as long. That said, it’s all about preference and what ranks in priority. If you’re not obsessed with highlights like I am, you might find that the drugstore dupe works just fine.
Extravagent spend: Kylie Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick in Koko K (£15.99)
Save: ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip in Midi (£4.99)
Verdict: It’s a toss-up. I’ve read numerous articles that ColourPop lipsticks are identical in formula to Kylie lip kits, but on the other hand, Kylie lipsticks come with a matching lip pencil.
Extravagent spend: Tarte Double Duty Shape Tape (£22)
Save: Wet n’ Wild Photo Focus Concealer (£3.75)
Verdict: Extravagent spend. I get long-lasting coverage from Tarte Shape Tape.
Extravagent spend: Urban Decay Naked3 Palette (£42)
Save: Maybelline The Blushed Nudes Eyeshadow Palette (£5.99)
Verdict: Extravagent spend. The Maybelline palette is clever (the shadows are organized by a combination of duos, trios and quads) but there’s a lot of fallout. The Naked3 Palette price point is steep, but totally worth every penny.
Extravagent spend: Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer (£12.99)
Save: e.l.f. Mineral Face Primer (£6.75
Verdict: save. I can’t really tell a difference between the Smashbox version and e.l.f.
Extravagent spend: Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick (£32)
Save: Maybelline Fit Me Foundation Stick (£4.99)
Verdict: save, unless you can’t find a shade that matches your skin tone.
Extravagent spend: Benefit Hoola (£26)
Save: Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer (£11)
Verdict: save. I’m obsessed with the drugstore one (smells like paradise) and it works great for contouring.
Extravagent spend: NARS Orgasm Blush (£30)
Save: NYX Powder Blush in Pinched (£7)
Verdict: Extravagant – just glides on and blends better than the cheaper alternative
